
Barbara Wildhaber
President
Barbara Wildhaber is a physician, a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zurich. She then specialized in pediatric surgery, training successively in Switzerland, South Africa, and the United States. She then chose to sub-specialize in pediatric hepatobiliary surgery and now heads the surgical division of the Swiss Centre for Children's Liver Disease at the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG).
In 2010, she was appointed full professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva and head of the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Surgery at HUG. She also holds a full professorship at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne.
On the humanitarian front, Barbara Wildhaber has led several surgical missions in Ukraine, the Dominican Republic, and South Africa. Deeply involved in the "Global Children's Surgery" initiative, she directed the national project for strengthening pediatric surgery in Burkina Faso between 2020 and 2025.
Academically, her research focuses on her preferred fields: hepatobiliary surgery and pediatric transplantation. Her contributions have earned her several scientific distinctions and resulted in numerous publications in leading international journals.
Barbara Wildhaber also serves on several boards of scientific journals, foundations, and learned societies, and is a member of the Council and Assembly of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
